The Torch Operator role is a physical, fast-paced position that involves cutting and washing of designated areas. The role entails the ability to make tank adjustments when needed and set up torch to begin work.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Setting up, pulling and repairing lines (if damaged)
  • Cutting fire blankets
  • Filling water bottles for Fire Watch & retrieving water for crew while onboard ship
  • Alert of direction of slag movement to prevent fire or other safety hazards
  • Grinding designated areas to the satisfaction of lead welder, manager or client
  • Check and monitor torch to ensure proper working condition
  • Ability to set up torch and adjust tank pressure with limited or no supervision
  • Assist other team members as needed

Some requirements:

  • TWIC Card
  • Ability to climb up to 25 ft
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to travel and work weekends (based on business needs)
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and follow standard safety rules
  • Willingness to learn equipment usage and troubleshoot minor issues
  • Consent for pre-employment drug test screening
  • Safety apparel such as steel toed boots, protective gloves and glasses
